Hand-painted on wood

Inspiration: probably a Russian icon from the XVI Century which inspired a Romanian icon painted by a local artist. The original was a large icon, mine is reduced in scale. It was used in villages in Russia and in Romania to celebrate St. George’s Day when the icon was carried on a pole or plate around the church in a procession accompanied by traditional music, singing and even dancing. The icon was painted on a special panel cut with a “floral” design. Acrylic on wood, respecting the design and chromatic of the original, finished with varnish and polished with beeswax.
